I am excited to share that I am training for the COHASSET TRIATHLON on June 25, 2023 to raise funds for the JBC PANS & PANDAS Foundation, a non-profit based in Scituate, MA. JBC is dedicated to offering relief to PANS/PANDAS’ families who are suffering from the emotionally and financially devastating impacts of a PANS & PANDAS diagnosis.
PANS/PANDAS are medical conditions brought on by post-infectious autoimmune encephalitis. Triggers can include strep, lyme disease, flu, pneumonia, mono, COVID as well as other infectious triggers. This condition occurs when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy brain cells, leading to inflammation of the brain. In essence, it’s a misdirected immune response. Tragically, countless children with PANS/PANDAS are misdiagnosed with a psychiatric illness or behavioral disorder (i.e. ADHD, OCD, Anxiety). When left untreated, the child is consigned to a life of symptom management & anguish when a cure is possible.

Members of the PANS Research Consortium estimate 1-2% of the pediatric population is affected by PANS (1 in 200). In Massachusetts alone that breaks down to between 16,751 to 33,000 children.
