Why I Joined Look. and Why I’m Walking This October

When I joined the Look. Foundation, I wasn’t just stepping into a new role, I was stepping into a community I didn’t even know existed. I quickly realized this wasn’t just about a job. It was about people. About kids, teens, and young adults whose lives had been turned upside down by something most of the world has never even heard of: PANS/PANDAS.

These conditions are as serious as they are misunderstood. They can cause sudden, dramatic changes in a child’s personality, behavior, and abilities, sometimes overnight. What looks like anxiety, OCD, ADHD, or depression can actually be the brain’s immune system in crisis.

Far too often, families go years without answers. They’re told it’s “just a phase” or “just anxiety,” while they watch their child struggle and change before their eyes. Every wrong turn, every missed diagnosis, means more time lost.

The Heart of the Mission

Look. steps into that gap. We provide healing grants when insurance can’t cover the care kids need. We create awareness so symptoms are recognized sooner. We connect families so they feel less alone in one of the hardest battles they’ll ever face.

And beyond the grants and the campaigns, we listen. We show up. We remind families that someone believes them, and that they’re not alone.

How It’s Changed Me

Being part of this work has changed the way I see the world. I’ve met parents who’ve fought for years, refusing to give up no matter how many doors close. I’ve seen kids start to heal when the right treatment finally reaches them. I’ve felt the heaviness of heartbreaking stories and the lift that comes when hope returns.

It’s impossible to witness that kind of strength and not be moved by it. This mission has made me more aware of the struggles we can’t see, and the difference that compassion, persistence, and action can make.

Why I’m Walking on October 4th

On October 4th, I’ll be walking for every child still searching for answers. For every parent who has had to fight twice as hard to be heard. For every family who deserves a faster, kinder, clearer path to healing.

The Look. Walk isn’t just an event. It’s a statement, that this community is strong, united, and determined to change what’s possible for kids with PANS/PANDAS.

When we walk together, we make this fight visible. We turn private battles into a public movement. And we take another step toward a future where no family has to go through this alone.

If you can, join us, in Boston or from wherever you are. Every step matters. Every voice matters. And together, we can bring more hope, more answers, and more healing into the world.
